A Way to Spiritual Maturity
We have developed a way with materials to help you to not only come to salvation, but then to grow into spiritual maturity. You can check things off as you complete them. Start at the top, but they do not have to be in the order presented here.
O Come to salvation - We have a basic tract to help you understand salvation and how to accept Christ into your life. It is called "Understanding What the Gospel Is All About". Read that and pray the prayer at the end. Then tell our pastor and others about your decision to follow Christ.
O Next We want to help you come to a quick growth in learning some of the most important teachings of the Bible. Pastor Shea says, "I wish someone could have given me this study early on in my Christian walk for it took me years to come to an understanding about some of these things. So we have a Bible Study book for you called, "Foundational Christian Teachings". While the teachings are deep and foundational they are also designed to be a quick study method to give you a good skeletal understanding to facilitate a full and mature understanding of the important Bible Teachings you need to know for your life.
O "Reasons We Believe" is a small booklet we have which is a "digest" of "apologetics" that is evidences and reasons to believe in God, the Bible and Jesus Christ. Contrary to what people think, there are many rational, scientific evidences we believe. Faith is NOT something we choose to have when there is no reason to believe, that would be foolish. Faith is trust in what you know to be true.
O A good study next is our study called, "How to Live in the Church". This unique study teaches us how to relate well with people and understand the life and operations of the church. It is very important to enter into regular fellowship and attendance with the church because that is how you can grow spiritually and find strength in your growing faith and relationship with other friends.
O Be Baptized. Jesus tells us as his disciples to be baptized. Baptism is a witness not only to the world but to ourselves of the decision to follow Christ. In many cultures they may allow their people to fellowship and study with Christians, but if they get baptized they realize that that person has made a commitment to become a Christian, sometimes therefore they are ostracized from their culture because even they understand Baptism is a sign of commitment. Talk to the pastor and he will help make arrangements.
O Establish regular, habitual Christian practices such as Bible reading, prayer, attendance and fellowship with the church, financial giving and ongoing studies, for there is so much to learn and enjoy.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV)
O "How to Live as a Disciple" is a an additional study which helps us understand our spiritual lives and the attitudes that affect our daily lives.
O Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!" 2 Corinthians 13:5 (ESV) Many people can go through the motions but their character does not line up with that of the Lord's. Christianity is not about putting a new label on your head, it is about taking on His Spirit and growing in His character. Make sure you are in love with the character and the attitudes of Jesus.
O Be Giving Thanksgiving and Praise to God:
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7 (ESV)
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:4-9 (ESV)
